How is finished particle size determined in a hammer mill?

Finished particle size is primarily controlled by the screen or grate through which material must pass before leaving the grinding chamber. Screen size provides approximately 70% of the control over finished particle size in the majority of hammer mill applications. The remaining control comes primarily from the force of impact, which is affected by rotor speed and hammer size and configuration. Material properties such as hardness, brittleness, and moisture content also affect the final particle size distribution.
